WNCW Savannah
WNCW's Savannah office services Community Associations in Coastal Georgia and South Carolina.
According to the Community Associations Institute (CAI), 1 in 3 Americans now live in a covenant-controlled community. In Savannah and its surrounding communities, it is estimated that over 70% of the new construction is either a condominium or homeowner association.
Responsibility for operating an association transitions from developer to a Board of Directors composed of homeowners in the community. All associations encounter legal issues during the period of developer-control that will thereafter affect the success and vitality of the community. Despite that, few associations seek legal advice until after the association is turned over to the members. That can be too late.
The law firm of Weissman, Nowack, Curry & Wilco, P.C. (WNCW) recognizes that need for legal counsel both before and after turnover from developer-control and has specialized in representing community associations for more than 25 years. WNCW has helped transition over 2,000 community associations in Georgia and coastal South Carolina from developer control and with the legal issues related to the day to day operations of an association.
We are pleased to announce the opening of a new office in the Savannah/Hilton Head areas. Some of the specialized services that will be offered to community associations include:
- Assist with transition from developer control
- Collect unpaid assessments and fees
- Draft, interpret and enforce community rules and legal documents
- Train Boards of Directors on legal rights and obligations
- Revise and negotiate contracts
- Seek solutions for zoning and land use issues
- Adopt preventative measures to reduce legal exposure
- Resolve disputes through preventative negotiation, then litigation or arbitration if necessary
In addition, WNCW is widely recognized for our great success in collecting delinquent assessments for our clients. In 2006 alone, WNCW collected over $8,000,000 from delinquent owners for our clients! Our unique Deferred Collections Retainer Program passes the costs of the initial steps in the collection process to the delinquent owners, instead of the association.
From our unequaled experience in representing community associations, we have learned that Board members and managers are more successful in their efforts to operate a thriving community only after they have been educated. While experience is certainly a good teacher, it means learning at the association's expense. WNCW shortens the learning curve and mistakes by teaching Board members and managers what they must know to properly discharge their duties. We are offering a series of continuing education classes free of charge to help Savannah and Hilton Head Board members be more effective association leaders.* Please visit the WNCW Academy website for more information and to register!
*Savannah classes have been approved by the Georgia Institute of Real Estate for 3.0 hours of continuing education credit.
